The Nintirri Centre Inc’s Community Resource Centre is proud to announce that we will be offering Hiking Tour Guide Training in June, 2022.
In April 2021, The Nintirri Centre ran Aboriginal Tour Guide Training with funding from the Australian Executive Trust (AET), this pilot program was focused on working in the tourism industry and running a tour, facilitated by Savannah Guides in partnership with Clinton Walker from Ngurrangga Tours, it was a success and focused on the following subjects:
- Story Telling, developing commentary, the art of interpretation
- Working as a guide
- Developing a theme
- Tourism industry, trends and networking
- Customer service, developing a business
- Marketing, social media, photography, electronic bookings
- WHS, Government regulation, licensing
- Feedback
- On Country practice tours at the Karijini Experience 2021
Following on from the 2021 training, we are now offering Hiking Tour Guide Training to the community of Tom Price and surrounds through a generous grant from the Department of Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
Savannah Guides will again facilitate the program with training focused on the following topics:
- Hiking safety and leading groups
- Dealing with emergencies
- Risk management
- Environmental responsibility
- Tour guide training techniques/skills
- Working with Traditional Owners on cultural perspectives/protocols etc.
- Developing commentary and content around the regions current walking trails
- Practice tours
Expressions of interest are now open with training available to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people, tourism businesses and the general community who want to improve their hiking skills and confidence.
This have-a-go training is open to all fitness levels and will allow participants to practice their skills as well as encourage our community to participate in hiking our local trails.
